Grade Calculator: Calculate Your Final Class Grade

Our grade calculator helps you determine your final grade based on weighted categories and individual scores. Whether your class uses assignments, quizzes, exams, and participation with different weights, this tool calculates exactly where you stand and what you need to achieve your target grade.

The calculator supports multiple grading schemes including standard A-F with plus/minus, simple letter grades, pass/fail, and UK Honours classifications. Use the what-if feature to see what scores you need on remaining assignments.

How Weighted Grades Work

Most courses divide your grade into categories with different weights. For example: Homework 20%, Quizzes 15%, Midterm 25%, Final 30%, Participation 10% = 100% total.

Calculation: Each category's contribution = (Category Average × Weight). Your final grade is the sum of all category contributions divided by total weight.

Example: If you average 90% on homework (20% weight) and 80% on quizzes (15% weight), those contribute: (90 × 0.20) + (80 × 0.15) = 18 + 12 = 30 points toward your final grade.

Using the What-If Calculator

The "What Grade Do I Need?" feature shows what average you need on remaining categories to reach your target grade. It calculates based on your current scores and remaining weight.

If you're at 82% with 40% of your grade determined, and you want an A (90%), the calculator shows what you need to average on the remaining 60% to reach 90% overall.

FAQ

What if my weights don't add to 100%?

The calculator normalizes weights automatically, but for accurate results, ensure your category weights match your syllabus. A warning appears if weights don't total 100%.

How do I calculate extra credit?

Enter scores above the maximum (e.g., 105/100) for assignments with extra credit. This will properly calculate into your category average and final grade.

Can I drop lowest scores?

Simply don't enter the dropped scores. Only include scores that count toward your final grade according to your course policy.
