QR codes (Quick Response codes) are two-dimensional barcodes that can store various types of data. When scanned with a smartphone camera, they instantly open URLs, add contacts, connect to WiFi networks, or perform other actions.

Supported QR Code Types

URL: Link to any website. Great for marketing materials, business cards, and product packaging.
Text: Encode plain text messages up to ~2,000 characters.
Email: Pre-populate email address, subject, and body text.
Phone: Dial a phone number when scanned.
SMS: Open messaging app with pre-filled recipient and message.
WiFi: Connect to a WiFi network without typing the password.
vCard: Add a contact with name, phone, email, and more.
Event: Add a calendar event with date, time, location, and description.
Location: Open maps app to specific coordinates.

Error Correction Levels

QR codes include error correction, allowing them to be read even if partially damaged. Higher error correction means larger QR codes but more reliability:

Low (L): ~7% recovery - smallest size, use for clean environments.
Medium (M): ~15% recovery - balanced choice for most uses.
Quartile (Q): ~25% recovery - for printed materials.
High (H): ~30% recovery - best for adding logos or outdoor use.

FAQ

What size should my QR code be?

For print, the minimum size depends on scanning distance. A 1-inch (2.5 cm) QR code works for up to 10 inches away. For posters scanned from several feet away, use at least 3-4 inches.

Can I use any colors?

The foreground should be darker than the background for best scanning. Black on white is ideal. Avoid low-contrast combinations and inverted colors (light on dark).

PNG vs SVG - which format?

PNG is best for web use and social media. SVG is vector-based and scales perfectly for print at any size without quality loss.
